The Ansat is a lightweight, multi-purpose, twin-engine helicopter developed and produced by Kazan Helicopters. Ansat development began in 1993 and the first flight was performed on 17 August 1999. Basically, Ansat is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW207K turboshaft engines driving a four-bladed main rotor. The helicopter is provided with a skid landing gear and a two-bladed tail rotor. From October 2002 through June 2004 the third Ansat prototype underwent flight testing logging more than 300 flight hours and paving the way for type certification.

The Ansat helicopter is suitable for search and rescue, emergency medical services, VIP transport and transport of passengers and cargo. The Russian Ministry of Defense ordered the development of Ansat-U to provide training for fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft crews. The helicopter version features wheeled landing gear and a dual control system. Ansat-U first prototype assembly was complete in April 2004. The Ansat-3 is a modified version of Ansat featuring a wheeled landing gear, stretched fuselage, increased max takeoff weight, five-bladed main rotor and four-bladed tail rotor. The cabin of Ansat-3 results one meter longer and thus provides seating capacity for up to 14 passengers.

The Ansat-M is an upgraded version of the Ansat helicopter incorporating a new fuel system in order to expand its range of operation. The standard configuration range of the Ansat-M is 690 kilometers that can be increased up to 790 kilometers adding an extra fuel tank. Besides, the helicopter also incorporates new avionics and a modern autopilot as well as improved aerodynamics with a new main rotor and tail rotor blades. The improved aerodynamics translates into an increased maximum takeoff weight and lower noise emissions. The use of composite materials onto the Ansat-M has increased from 15 to 35 percent compared with the original Ansat helicopter. The Ansat-M made its maiden flight at the end of 2020 and is expected to enter revenue service in 2022 or 2023.
